This
area is steeped in history. Broughty Ferry itself has two castles;
Broughty Castle & Claypotts Castle. Broughty Castle is well
worth the visit to learn the history of this picturesque town. Ten
miles north, Glamis Castle is a large castle and grounds that has
been theater to significant events in Scots history. No visit to
Dundee is complete without a visit to Discovery Point, a quayside
complex that showcases the SS Discovery; the Dundee built ship in
which Captain Scott sailed to the Antarctic. Fifteen miles east
of Broughty Ferry lies the historic town of Arbroath; a must visit
for anybody interested in Scotland's history. Here you will find
many Pictish artifacts and the impressive Arbroath Abbey; the site
of the famous 'Declaration' of 1320 stating Scotland's independence
from England.

| Broughty
Ferry has many specialty shops for you to browse in and is a perfect
place to find that 'unique' gift. Dundee itself is also a shoppers
haven; winning UK awards for its shopping facilities. The city centre
has two major shopping malls and ample pedestrianised precincts full
of shops. |
| Broughty
Ferry has many bars and is full of different restaurants featuring
the best of Scottish cuisine, to ethnic food including French, Indian,
Turkish, Chinese and Italian. There is also Jaques nightclub on the
Esplanade. Dundee as any city has a wide range of bars, restaurants,
and clubs. |
| The
area has many sporting attractions. Broughty Ferry is ideal for those
interested in water sports with its extensive beach. Within ten miles
there are two country parks for those interested in walking, while
there are also many hills in the area for those wanting a more energetic
walk. For those interested in fishing the Tay river is considered
one of the best Salmon rivers of them all, and Golf fans will certainly
not be disappointed with the dazzling array of facilities. For those
more interested in watching sport, Dundee is home to two major football
clubs that ironically live across the road from each other. Dundee
FC is the older club but in recent years have stood in the shadows
as their neighbours Dundee United FC have been more successful. |
